The Rebirth Soundtrack

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”
Bob Marley

Headphones in. Volume up. When the beat drops I enter a peaceful state of mind. I have a unique taste in music. Musics plays an instrumental role in my recovery. I am more of a Maroon 5, Childish Gambino, Sam Smith, Paramore, and Blake Shelton kinda chic. Each song below tells a special part of my story and a little bit about me. Take a listen to some of my favorite hits below! I hope these songs inspire you too!

  1. Paramore – Aint’ It Fun

“Don’t go cryin’ to your mama, cuz you’re on your own in the real world.” One of my favorite Paramore songs. Being in recovery is awesome but I am afraid to face reality again.  I need to loosen up and enjoy my life because life is FUN! I know I have a mental illness but I am not going to let it reduce me. I can’t always go running to my friends and family for help. Time to regain my independence.

2. Disclosure- Latch feat. Sam Smith

Yes, this is a love song but I love the words. “Now I’ve got you in my space…I’m latching onto you.” This song reminds me of my depression. My depression is like a leech.

3. Neon Trees – Everybody Talks

“It started with a whisper.”  People love to gossip. Especially when you do something wrong or cause a havoc. Stop talking and listen!

4. Naughty Boy- La La La feat. Sam Smith

Sometimes I wish I could just mute all the negative comments.

5. John Legend- All of Me

Please accept me for all my flaws. I am not perfect. You may not understand what I am going through but the only thing you can do is be there for me.

6. OneRepublic – Counting Stars

Counting my blessings everyday and thanking God that I am still alive. “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.”
Bil Keane

7. AJR- I’m Ready

This song has nothing to do with my story however I love the bass guitar in the background. I am ready to conquer my fears and accomplish my goals.

8. Clean Bandit – Rather Be feat. Jess Glynne

There’s no place I’d rather be than here on Earth.
